Respect in youth sports means much more than just being kind to your opponents. Olympic gold medalist and TrueSport Ambassador Lauryn Williams shares just some of the many ways athletes can show respect.
Respect is important because it’s how you respect yourself, but also how you respect others. It’s important that you show that you value the other people that you’re participating in sport with, the people that are volunteering on your own behalf to make your sport go, the level playing field is important as it pertains to respecting all aspects of sport, respecting the field of play. That means not spitting on the track as you’re getting ready to get into the blocks in someone else’s lane. Respect is all about using the different values that you have and bringing them all together to show others that you value them and to stand up and show people that you value yourself.
