Background & Bio

Aaron Scheidies is a Paralympian, coach, and TrueSport Athlete Ambassador celebrated for his perseverance and dedication to sport and community. As a leader both on and off the course, Aaron inspires athletes of all backgrounds to embrace resilience, sportsmanship, and healthy living.

Aaron is a visually impaired athlete who began losing his eyesight in the second grade. He has a hereditary condition known as Juvenile Macular Degeneration, or Stargardt’s disease. Despite his vision loss, Aaron’s talent and tenacity have consistently placed him at the top of his sport. He holds titles as an eight-time Paratriathlon World Champion and fourteen-time U.S. Paratriathlon National Champion. He competed for Team USA in Para-Cycling at the 2016 Paralympic Games and has set several world records for visually impaired athletes in triathlon and marathon events.

As a TrueSport Ambassador, Aaron shares his journey of overcoming vision loss, mental health struggles, and life’s obstacles, ultimately demonstrating how perseverance, adaptability, and finding healthy outlets can transform challenges into new opportunities. He is an advocate for clean performance, healthy habits, and inclusive sport environments.

Born in Michigan, he attended Michigan State University, where he founded the triathlon team, and holds a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Washington. In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Scheidies is a dedicated physical therapist, father of three, husband, and motivational speaker. His story has inspired countless individuals to prioritize their mental health, redefine success, embrace exercise as a positive outlet and pursue new goals even after major setbacks. He is very involved with young kids, teaching them how to ride bikes as well as gaining strength and learning sport values through Kids Boot camps.
